Garlic Cheese Bread

Garlic and olive oil on a bread slice - Garlic Bread !
Believed to have been first prepared by the Italians, the traditional recipe actually calls only for rubbing a garlic clove on the toasted bread, followed by a drizzle of olive oil. It is said that in those times the actual reason for doing so was to camouflage any sort of distaste present in the bread. Ha ! We sure have come a long way since then.

Today, there are quite a number of variations and perhaps the most famous one being the cheesy ones :D.

Garlic Cheese Bread

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 Loaf of French Bread or Baguette
  • 5-6 Garlic Cloves
  • 4-5 Sprigs of Parsley
  • Freshly Ground Pepper
  • Chilly Flakes (optional)
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt, as per taste
METHOD
  • Coarsely blend the garlic cloves and parsley.
  • Cut open the baguette through the middle, without completely separating it into halves.
  • Spread the garlic parsley mix on the open sides.Sprinkle shredded parmesan, salt, ground pepper and chilly flakes. Finally drizzle some olive oil on it.
  • Toss it into a pre-heated oven of 200C.
  • Bake for 15 minutes or until cheese starts bubbling and browning.
  • Garlic cheese bread is all ready to dig in.
  • Have it as such or cut into smaller portions.
  • Serving suggestion - wait a couple of minutes before sinking your precious teeth into the melting and piping hot cheese !!
