Chana Dal Coconut Chutney

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 Cup Coconut, grated
  • 1/2 Cup Chana Dal, roasted
  • 2-3 Green Chillies
  • 1 Dry Red Chilli
  • 2-3 Sprigs of Curry Leaves
  • 1 Tspn Mustard Seeds
  • 1 Tspn Cumin Seeds
  • Pinch of Asafoetida / Hing
  • Salt as per taste
METHOD
  • Blend the roasted chana dal, grated coconut and the green chillies to a smooth paste. Add salt and sufficient water to give it a medium consistency. Check the seasoning. Add salt or chilly as per necessity. Keep aside.
  • In a pan, heat a little oil. Add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the red chilly, curry leaves and hing.
  • Add this tempering to the chutney and mix well.
  • An excellent accompaniment to dosa, idli or upma.
